Sharing the Water

When we're on the water, or at the ramp, "The River" is a public place that we share together - it's here for all of us to enjoy and make use of. It can be frustrating to see other people using the river in ways you don't approve of, or in ways that are actively encroaching on *your* public access. This page is meant to help you make the most of your limited time at the river while navigating potential conflicts.
- Leave no trace, and pick up as much trash as you can.
- It's often carelessness that leads to litering, more than outright malice.
- No styrofoam or glass on the water, please.
- Don't burn plastic, glass, or aluminum in your camp fires, and
- break down your fire rings
- It's OK to pee in the river,
- but please dig a hole for your turds
- or even better, pack them out using groover bags
- Paddlers should stick to the inside of turns when boats are around
- The channel, and deeper water, will usually be on the outside of the bend.
- Turn your canoe / kayak / paddleboard perpendicular to the wake to avoid strong rolling (and tipping)
- Don't expect the boats to slow down
- Flat bottom boats draft the least amount of water when they are "up on plane".
- Weekends are the most popular time on the water
- Friday evenings into saturday are extremely popular during the summer months.
- Sundays can be significantly quieter than saturdays, especially in the morning.
- Weekdays are practically empty, in comparison. This is when wildlife show their true behaviors.
