This is a semi-urban section that runs through Castlewood and Lone Elk parks.

Jetskis, inboard and outboard jets, along with prop boats and even pontoons can be seen during summer high water.

Regulations[edit | edit source]

The portion within Castlewood park has dangerous currents that have claim multiple lives every year. Swimming is not recommended along this segment, and is prohibited within Castlewood.

There is no horsepower limit or engine-type restriction for this section. Some rules for Sharing the Water will enable paddlers and boaters to interact safely, minimizing opportunities for conflict.

Highlights & Hazards[edit | edit source]

Times Beach Shoal must be navigated almost as soon as your paddles are wet at the Route 66 State Park ramp.

There is a wrecked sand dredge on river left, just as the river turns east from the first northern leg.

Railroad crossings and sidings can make for a cinematic experience on the water.
